Why a mound you can see is the smaller half of the problem
A fire ant mound is the visible part of a colony that is mostly underground and mostly somewhere else. Knocking the top off a mound, or pouring something on it, usually moves the colony a few feet rather than ending it. That is why yards that get treated mound by mound seem to grow new mounds within weeks.
King's treats every active mound on the property and then treats the ground the colonies are actually working across. Both halves matter, and doing one without the other is most of the reason people call a second company.
Fire ants can eliminate any ant infestation the same way, so if what you have turns out to be a different ant species, the treatment adapts rather than starting over.

Mound treatment plus a broadcast bait on the whole yard
On an average size yard, King's treats all active mounds and then broadcasts bait across the entire yard. The bait is carried back into colonies you never located, which is the part that stops new mounds appearing a fortnight later.

One condition worth knowing before you book: fire ant treatment cannot be applied while it is raining. Central Texas being what it is, the office will move an appointment rather than waste a treatment on wet ground.
Chapter 03
Thirty feet of perimeter on an acreage
Broadcasting bait across the entire yard makes sense on a normal lot. On larger acreage it does not, so King's treats a thirty foot perimeter around the home instead. You get a treated buffer where people and pets actually are, without paying to bait pasture.
If you are not sure which of the two your property counts as, the technician will tell you when they look at it.
As a stand alone visit or bundled with regular service
Fire ant control bundles neatly with a bi-monthly or quarterly preventative service, which is how most Georgetown customers run it. Prevention is included in that cadence, so the chances of the colonies coming back drop.
It also works as a stand alone treatment applied once every six months if the rest of your pest situation is under control and fire ants are the only real problem. Either way there is no long term contract.
